The meeting was called to order at 1:05 by President Robert Cannon. The minutes were
approved as corrected.
Phil Ruttenberg presented the treasurer’s report The current balance is $26,728.44.
Several people still did not receive a download of the report. The report was approved.
Jim Mackie did not have a CUCRA report because the March meeting was postponed
until April 17.The retirement plan participation for new emplayees is still a subject of
discussion. The new President of the University was presented today and hopefully the
organization of the office will proceed shortly. There is also a suggestion that the
medical plan maybe set up with an endowment fund.
Vera Pierucci’s report was read by Frances. Several cards were sent to various retirees.
It was noted that Gene Saschs has been in the hospital and is recuperating at home.
Frances Larrangueta reported that there was nothing new in the membership area.
Sandra Norberg gave the program report. The Fidelity Seminar was well attended. The
Filoli trip has 42 people signed up. Hoseracing on April 25th has a few signed up. A tour
on the HSS Potomac on September 24th is planned, it will include Angel Island and the
Bay Model. A hike to Bolinas is scheduled for April 25. It will be 10 miles roundtrip.
Rod Seeger discussed a meeting with the Milberry Union committee held yesterday.
Byron Siegal was introduced as a subcommittee member. Discussion included adding
some classes aimed at the retiree group at both Milberry and Mission Bay. They will set
up 3 focus groups-5 to be members,5 to be recent retirees and 5 to be more senior
retirees. They will develop a program that will be ready for the fall enrollment period.(‘we
may get a reduced rate if there are enough signups.) After that, a system will be set up
for partnering with MU.
Jean Taggart presented a plan for using the website and other publications to tell about
interesting projects, tours done by retirees and listed as “Profiles”.
Alice Herrera gave the nominating committee report. The 2 nominees for at-large
members are Don Snyder and Carol Mowbray. They will be elected at the June luncheon.
Stan Phillips reported on the website. A discussion was held whether we should become
a Registered Campus Organization with the Student Affairs Office. Advantages include
their hosting of our website. Since the disadvantages were not clear, a committee of
Freeman Bradley and Bob Cannon will investigate the pros and cons and report at the
next meeting.
Other business included a discussion of possibly increasing the number of at-large
members from 4 to a specified number. We will decide next meeting whether we will
make this change. It was pointed out that this would require a by-law change and it was
suggested that this be accomplished by mail rather than a vote at the annual meeting
(June luncheon) thereby giving everyone a chance to express their wishes.
The next meeting dates will be April30 and June 25.
The meeting was adjourned a 2:30
